Pittsburgh Pirates veteran Andrew McCutchen is pretty vocal about his thoughts. The slugger is known for backing his fellow players and supporting them when necessary. However, McCuthen took it to a new level when he spoke about his teammate Oneil Cruz.
Cruz is undeniably a Pirates star. The slugger had a strong performance for his team last season. Cruz smashed 21 home runs and drove in 76 runs in 541 appearances at the plate. He held a batting clip of .259 with a .324 OBP and a .750 OPS. Yet, is it worth comparing Cruz with the mighty Shohei Ohtani?
McCutchen went all out to make a bold comparison between Ohtani and Cruz. The slugger mentioned that Ohtani gets all the fame in whatever he does. However, if Cruz does the same thing, he has no ceiling.
“Ohtani does things that people go, ‘I’ve never seen that done.’ [Cruz] does the same stuff, stuff you’ve never seen… He has no ceiling,” Andrew McCutchen said via MLB’s official account on X.
McCutchen might have made a bold prediction, but in his eyes, Cruz is doing things right for the Pirates. Cruz is a stellar player with a bright future. The slugger will play a vital role for his team in the upcoming season.
