Prince Harry should ‘get a job and keep his mouth shut’ – says former aide

The former private secretary of Princess Diana said Prince Harry should drop out of public life for good if he wants freedom.

Princess Diana’s former private secretary said Prince Harry should “drop out of public life and keep his mouth shut”.

Patrick Jephson, who worked for Princess Diana and knew Prince Harry as a young man, said to Grazia that if the Duke of Sussex wants the freedom that comes with a private life, he should get a job and stop putting himself in the public eye.

The comments come after Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 to get away from press intrusion, before putting themselves back under the spotlight with an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey and their Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan.

According to The Sun, Patrick Jephson said in an interview: “What is Harry for?

“No one can really answer that and I’m not sure if he can.”

He continued: “There is a basic inconsistency with what he says he wants and what he’s doing.

“He says he wants a private life, but if you want that freedom, you get a job, drop out of public life, keep your mouth shut and certainly don’t criticise the constitution of your adopted country.”

At the time of leaving his royal duties and the UK behind, Harry insisted that the aim was to have a “more peaceful” life away from press intrusion for the sake of his wife and two young children Archie and Lilibet.

He said at the time of leaving in 2020: “What I want to make clear is: we aren’t walking away and we are certainly not walking away from you.

“Our hope was to continue serving the Queen (Queen Elizabeth) , the Commonwealth and my military associations but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.

“I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am, but I hope that helps you understand what it had come to.

“That I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope could be a more peaceful life.”

His post-royal ventures have included doing overseas tours and focusing on his Invictus Games.

He has also attended events in his mum’s honour both in-person and over video call, as well as carried out engagements that are close to his heart.

This has led to a whirlwind of rumours that there is still a chance Prince Harry could return to the Royal Family, however sources close to the prince have shut these down by saying he is “settled” in California.

The prince has also spoken openly about feeling unsafe in the UK and not wanting to bring his wife and children here without adequate security measures in place.

This comes after Harry has recently visited the UK alone in recent months, once to visit his father King Charles after news of his cancer diagnosis, and again to attend a funeral.

On both occassions the prince did not stay on the royal estate.
