Twenty-four-year-old mental health nurse Mimii Ngulube has made history after becoming the first Zimbabwean to win the popular British game show “Love Island” along with her partner, model and part time footballer Josh Oyinsan (29).

They are also the first black couple to win the show since the rebooted version of the series began in 2015. No black couple has ever been placed higher than third in the final.

On Monday evening host Maya Jama announced that Mimii and Josh had won Love Island series 11 along with the £50,000 cash prize.

Mimii broke down in tears and model Josh told Maya: “Thank you everyone, we love you! I told her when I met her, she surprised me, everything I expected her to be, she was and more. So I didn’t need to make other connections.”

Mimii and Josh breezed through to the final with other couples who included Nicole Samuel and Ciaran Davies, Matilda Draper and Sean Stone and Jessica Spencer and Ayo Odukoya.

Nicole and Ciaran were the runners up in the final, Matilda and Sean were awarded third position while Jessica and Ayo finished fourth in the reality show competition.

Only last week another black couple Serena Page and Kordell Beckham won the US version of Love Island.

The format of the show broadcast on ITV sees “a group of men and women participate in a series of tasks with a partner that they keep swapping until they meet the love of their life.”
