Cadillac is currently in the midst of a huge marketing campaign regarding its second major electric car. The Celestiq concept car should be revealed in full by the end of this summer as a preview of the company’s upcoming fully electric flagship sedan.
Alas, not everyone with a knack for “properly proportioned sedans” is looking into the future of the brand’s four-door models. Instead, Marouane Bembli, the virtual artist better known as TheSketchMonkey on social media, is feeling nostalgic about the mid-size 1975 to 2004 Caddy Seville premium sedan.
You know – the one that had five cool generations, but then was succeeded by the bland STS and XTS into nothingness. So, this pixel master decided to redesign the final iteration of the Seville, the 2000s fifth generation, into something that discarded its forgettable successor and would still be on sale even today.
The premise is a little shaky, but that has never stopped this CGI expert from taking iconic, vintage nameplates like the Nissan 300ZX or the ugly Chrysler LeBaron and rendering them into 2022 with help from modern accents. So, the latest behind-the-scenes making-of video (embedded below) features a lot of talk about vintage sedans and boxy proportions at first, followed by the actual modern Seville redesign from the 5:14 mark.
And, as it turns out, it does not take a lot of hard CGI work to make the fifth-generation premium mid-size sedan contemporary again. As such, the pixel master slapped a set of mildly-modified, current CT4/5 taillights on it, along with larger wheels and beefier tires, changed a few styling lines here and there, darkened the windows, and called it a good digital day.
Well, as it turns out, it does not look half bad. Sure, it is merely wishful thinking at this point. But it would not be too hard for a Caddy Seville enthusiast to imagine a proper restomod build project based on this vision, frankly.
