The Berserk anime and manga are known for grisly fights full of medieval action, with the characters fittingly adorned in suits of armor. Now, one of the most bestial armors in the franchise is being recreated by a dedicated fan, and the result is already worthy of Guts’ approval.

Created out of a common yet sturdy material, this recreation of the Berserker armor is already impressive, even if it isn’t yet complete. It also represents one of the coolest (and darkest) parts of the Berserk franchise, with protagonist Guts undergoing a brutal transformation when wearing it. As detailed in both images and a test video, the armor’s gauntlets, forearm guards, pauldrons, breastplate, greaves, and sabatons have been completed, with the helmet well underway.

A Dedicated Berserk Fan Is Creating Guts’ Coolest Armor

Showcasing the armor on X (formerly Twitter), user mothbones presented their take on a notable facet of the Berserk anime and manga. This is none other than the “Berserker armor,” which is known for filling those who wear it (including main character Guts) with dark and dreadful emotions. mothbones’ version is made out of EVA foam, which is the same substance found in fishing rods, hockey pads, boxing gloves and other everyday items. More so than just the normal form of the suit of armor, this fan-made incarnation is based on a certain transformation of the person wearing it.

As shown by the armor’s already constructed helmet, the EVA foam armor is based on Guts’ appearance when he becomes the “Beast of Darkness.” This gives the helmet the appearance of a werewolf or similar creature, and it’s capable of opening up and biting opponents. It’s unknown if the EVA foam version made by mothbones will have the same ability, although it already looks intimidating enough. So far, only the armor’s upper chest, arms and helmet have been constructed, with the clawed hands also painted black to match the source material. The builder has promised to keep fans updated, and the finished product is sure to be worth the wait.

Guts’ Armored Form In Berserk Has Several Major Collectibles

Berserk is one of the most popular anime and manga in the world, with the Kentaro Miura manga still being a bestseller. The creator’s art style is one of the most notable elements, as it perfectly brings to life the franchise’s sense of frequent brutality and gore. Full of grit and grunge, the manga is an archetypal example of dark fantasy manga. Fans of the property are more than used to this level of savagery and want it on their shelves. Thus, different toys, figures, statues and other collectibles of Guts’ different forms in Berserk have been released over the years.

Many of these toys depict Guts as the Black Swordsman, although others are based on his more terrifying form as the Beast of Darkness. Of course, fans have also taken it upon themselves to recreate scenes from the anime and manga in a more tangible way, cosplaying as their favorite Berserk characters. Such is the case with mothbones, with the Beast of Darkness Berserker armor already set to be one of the best Guts cosplay outfits ever made.
