Bongani Fassie has made a shady reference to his former friend Da LES – real name Leslie Mampe – after the latter was hospitalised after a stroke.
The former Jozi members have fallen out in recent years, reportedly over a dispute over a contract with their record label.
Bongani and Mampe were half of the popular hip-hop group that also included Ishmael Morabe and the late Luther “Crazy Lu” Cohen, who tragically died in 2019.
BONGANI FASSIE THROWS SHADE AT DA LES?
While celeb pals have been posting their well-wishes and pictures of Da LES on social media following his stroke last week, Bongani Fassie has kept a notable silence.
In fact, the son of Brenda Fassie confirmed that his friendship with the rapper was truly over.
Following news that Da LES has been moved to a public hospital and remains unresponsive, social media users flooded Bongani’s Instagram comments section.
“Have you checked up on Da LES?” asked one fan. Although Bongani did not directly respond, he did like a comment that asked: “Why must he?”
BEHIND THE BEEF
It’s no secret that Da LES and Bongani Fassie have had a strained relationship since their days in Jozi. Their bad blood emanates from a dispute over their record label, Ghetto Ruff, which Bongani prematurely left.
Speaking to MacG’s Podcast and Chill in 2020, Da LES said his move soured their friendship.
He said: “I decided to stay to finish the contract. He felt I may have broken his heart for choosing to stay with the label; I should’ve been riding with him.
“My pain started to occur when I was like, damn, this guy brought me into this sh*t, and he’s not listening to me. When he left a lot of pressure was on me.
In 2021, Da LES revealed in a Behind The Story interview that he “no longer answers” Bongani’s phone calls.
Fast forward a few months, and Da LES would tell Lasizwe’s Drink or Tell The Truth YouTube show that he “never” wanted to work with Bongani professionally again.
He said: “I just surpassed that stage in my life…Over the years, there has just been a lot of back and forths and a lot of lies and at some point in your life as a grown-up, you need to be able to say ‘You know what, I am okay. I will catch you, and I am not shy to say it, it is what it is. Let’s keep the energy like that.”
Meanwhile, Bongani Fassie told I Blew It last year that he felt Da LES’s comments were like “spitting in his face.”
He said: “Today, they are insulting me, they are spitting in my face
ISHMAEL SENDS LOVE
Meanwhile, the fourth Jozi member, Ishmael Morabe, has sent Da LES a special shout-out.
He posted on Instagram: “Stay strong, my brother. I know you gonna be back with us in no time. Love you king
