It’s officially the end of Hollywood’s A-list couple Bennifer, as Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce on the second anniversary of her fairytale wedding to Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have gone their separate ways after the music megastar filed for divorce.
The A-list couple, who have been in the spotlight for over 30 years, made headlines in recent weeks after rumours swirled of relationship troubles behind the scenes. And now, loyal fans of Bennifer have been left heartbroken after it was revealed J-Lo filed for divorce from the Gone Girl actor earlier this year.
The singer, 55, listed the date of hers and Ben’s separation as April 26, 2024 – exactly two years after their lavish wedding. The pair, who are said to have not signed a prenuptial agreement when they got married, became Hollywood’s ‘IT’ couple in 2002 when they first started dating on the set of filming Gigli.
Their whirlwind romance came to an end in 2004, when J-Lo abruptly ended their engagement. But after 17 years apart and two failed marriages, they rekindled their love in May 2021. Just over a year later, they tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony at A Little White Chapel in July 2022. A month later, they got married again in front of friends and family at Ben’s house in Georgia.
But sadly, their relationship was doomed and the pair have reportedly spent much of their summer apart. A source summed up their reason for splitting in four words to PEOPLE Magazine, saying: “She was done waiting.” They continued: “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken. The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
J-Lo has been married three times before – she tied the knot with Ojani Noa in 1997, but split a year later, and was married to Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003. She and singer Marc Anthony were married for a decade, having tied the knot in 2004. And now, the star is reportedly ready to “move on” from her fourth husband, Ben.
“She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage,” another source told the publication. Jennifer has 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with her ex Marc, while Ben has three children, Violent, 18, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 12, with his ex, actress Jennifer Garner.
Ben started dating Garner in 2004 and the pair tied the knot in Turks and Caicos in June 2005. After their 10th wedding anniversary, they announced their separation. In February 2020, the Oscar winner said the “biggest regret” of his life was their divorce. He told The New York Times: “Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing.”
