She says it persuaded her to turn her life around and get clean.

Now, after two weeks in the St Lucia sun in the Caribbean, Amy is convinced she can get clean once and for all after a difficult two years.

Pictures of her on the beach show that she’s beginning to get the glow back in her skin and has started filling out again after looking dangerously skinny last year.

She admits to the new issue of Look magazine: ‘I’ve finally escaped from hell.

‘Before I came out here I looked at a photo of myself in the paper and was horrified.

‘My skin was a spotty mess and I was so pale and skinny.

‘I thought: “Girl, you’ve got sort yourself out or you’ll be dead soon.” I was depressed, doing drugs and had no life in me at all. Coming here has changed everything. I don’t need drugs.’

Amy is enjoying her time so much she has decided to remain on the island for another two months, convinced staying there will keep her away from her old druggie lifestyle in London.

In the interview, she also admitted to a holiday romance with aspiring actor John Bowman, claiming she’s ‘forgotten’ she’s married to Blake Fielder-Civil, who is currently behind bars at Pentonville Prison serving time for perverting the course of justice.

She said: ‘Our whole marriage was based on drugs anyway. He looks like me – a right mess. Almost every time I slept with him it was like I was dead.’

In recent weeks, Blake has filed for divorce on the grounds of Amy’s ‘adultery’.

Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse phoned Amy from London to inform her of Blake’s plans.

Mitch said: ‘I had to call Amy before she heard about it from someone else. She asked me, “Daddy, why does he want to divorce me?”

‘I said, “You know I don’t like him, but I have to admit that your behaviour with another man is not what marriage is all about.”‘
