Tyler Neil Alexander, Amazon warehouse employee at Bessemer, Alabama Fulfillment center shot dead in barrage of bullets in parking lot. No arrests made.

An Amazon employee has died after he was gunned down outside an Alabama warehouse facility while taking his break, Sunday night.

Tyler Neil Alexander, 19, of Birmingham, AL., was on break at the Amazon Fulfillment Center on Sunday night when the teen was fatally struck by a barrage of bullets in the parking lot.

The Amazon worker who had barely worked a month at the mail order facility was found dead on the pavement when the gunfire stopped. The gunfire erupted at 10:40 p.m. outside the Powder Plant Road facility, AL.com reported.

Was shooter an Amazon employer, present or former?

Detective Justin Burmeister with the Bessemer Police Department said it was not immediately clear if the suspect or suspects were also employees.

Not immediately clear is whether the victim was intentionally targeted or randomly shot. To date authorities have made no arrests or announced any suspects.

Investigators placed at least 10 evidence markers in the cordoned-off parking lot. Amazon canceled the remainder of the night shift as well as Monday’s day shift, sending the employees home with pay.

The victim’s mother, Sophie Brown said her son had only been at the plant for 20 days and that ‘he loved his job.’ Tyler Alexander according to the parent graduated from Huffman High School in 2025.

Brown vowed to find out who killed her son, and demanded to know how the shooter or shooters were able to access the Amazon campus. She said while the facility is secure inside, there needs to be tighter security in the parking lot.

Tragedy has raised questions about security and access to Amazon Fulfillment Center

The tragedy has since led to fellow workers expressing concern about their safety and the facility’s security measures according to WVTM13.

‘I’m scared to go to work,’ one anonymous worker told the outlet. ‘There really isn’t enough security for the area that it’s located in. The only requirement to get on the property is an employee badge that you’re allowed to keep after termination.’

The employee described frequent car break-ins and noted that security personnel often do not check employee badges.

The anonymous worker implored Amazon to implement stronger security measures and provide better resources for employees in the wake of the traumatic episode, including paid time off.

‘We’re deeply saddened by this tragic and senseless act of violence and are focused on supporting our employees during this time,’ Amazon spokesman Sam Stephenson said in a statement to WVTM 13. ‘We’re working with the Bessemer Police Department in their active investigation.’

Offered the heartbroken mother, ‘You took a great person from us. He would have gave you the shirt off his back. Think about what you did to him. God is going to get you.’
