Themba Sekowe, best known as DJ Maphorisa, is undoubtedly a jack of all trades and is not shy about showing off his skills. DJ Maphorisa made headlines after he took to Instagram to show off his car spinning skills.
DJ MAPHORISA SHOWS OFF TOP CAR SPINNING SKILLS
The video has gained thousands of comments and reactions since it dropped online. Fans quickly gave him a nod while others poked fun at him, making it known that he wanted relief funds from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture to settle his debt.
The video undoubtedly made rounds amid the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture relief fund saga. Last week, the department announced that over 3,000 beneficiaries received R72 million as relief funds during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several artists and celebrities received thousands from the department, and some notable names on the list include MacG and Mohale Motaung. The two received R75 000 each from the department.
With the DJ embroiled in an R20 million debt, fans jokingly said the muso was showing off his car spinning skills to better his chances of getting funds from the department. Taking it to Instagram, DJ Maphorisa posted, “I’m Thinking October or September. What do you think? PorryLand Spin Fest.”

MINISTER GAYTON MCKENZIE VOWS TO LEGALISE MOTORSPORT
Motorsport is undoubtedly popular amongst the youths in townships and gang-affected areas. The new Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, pledged to make car spinning a top sport in South Africa.
Despite the backlash, the new minister said South Africans should embrace the sport, likening it to F1.
Speaking to SABC during his swearing-in ceremony, Gayton McKenzie said, “Our kids love racing and motorsport. It’s not a crime. A child in sport is a child out of court. I am going to make sure I keep my promise that I am not only going to legalise but create opportunities behind the motorsport of car spinning.”
However, speaking about car spinning dangers, he said, “It’s part of the sport. When one person dies in boxing, you can’t stop the sport. We mustn’t use accidents as [an excuse]. It’s a part of life. I want to regulate it with fewer accidents and more safety. Ambulances must be on site, and the cars must be safe.
“I don’t put my mind on something [and then change it]. We’re going to do this”.
