Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has released the video to her single ‘Commona’ featuring Olamide and Mystro Sugar.

The track, which can streamed and downloaded on all major digital platforms(link is external), is taken from the soundtrack album for Savage’s debut feature film Water & Garri, currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Produced by Blaise Beatz, ‘Commona’ showcases Savage’s smooth vocals over a mid-tempo, fuji-inspired beat. The video, directed by Jyde Ajala, was shot in Los Angeles, California.

The Water & Garri soundtrack, curated by Savage includes 10 original songs from the singer as well as fellow African stars like Ayra Starr, Young Jonn, Aṣa, Richard Bona and Black Sherif. Sonically, the album caters to the pulses of Afropop, R&B and hip hop.

Water & Garri marks Savage’s first lead role in a feature film and she also as its executive producer. In May, the film made history as Prime Video’s biggest weekend opener in Nigeria. It also scored the No 1 position in neighbouring Togo, Cameroon and Ghana, while securing a top 10 spot in 12 other countries including the UK, South Africa, Qatar and Cyprus among others.

Water & Garri has been selected as the closing film for the upcoming Essence Film Festival in New Orleans on 7 July as part of the Essence Festival of Culture, which is celebrating its 30th year in 2024. The festival showcases original projects in film, television, music and new media created by Black storytellers across the African diaspora.

Savage, an Afrobeats veteran behind LPs like Once Upon A Time, R.E.D and Celia, is set to perform at OVO Arena Wembley in London, UK, on 6 October.
