Sad But True: Seven – “Best TV Buddy Ever”, Who Played Dog on The Walking D.ead, Has D.ied

Seven, the Belgian Malinois who starred as Daryl Dixon’s canine companion in The Walking Dead, has died.

AMC and The Walking Dead announced the death of Seven on the X/Twitter accounts for the post-apocalyptic drama and paid tribute to the show’s “best boy” with images of the furry fan-favorite, simply known as “Dog” on the series.

Shortly after the news broke, Daryl actor Norman Reedus, who currently stars in his own spin-off series for AMC, posted several pictures of himself and Seven on Instagram stories. “Gonna miss u seven,” Reedus wrote alongside a broken heart emoji and added: “Best TV buddy ever.” He also dedicated a grid photo to Seven.

“Will miss u buddy,” Reedus wrote in the comments section of the post, where his fellow The Walking Dead cast members also left their love and condolences, including the likes of Lynn Collins, who played Leah in the series, Khary Payton, who starred as Ezekiel, and Sabrina Gennarino, whose character was Tamiel.

Angela Kang, who served as showrunner on the final three seasons of The Walking Dead, shared the announcement from the show’s official account on her Instagram stories and added, “RIP Seven,” alongside a crying face emoji.

Seven was introduced in the seventh episode of Season 9, Stradivarius, and gained an instant following as fans launched a petition to protect Daryl’s dog shortly after arriving on the scene. Seven appeared in over 20 episodes in total, right the way through to the series finale of The Walking Dead that aired in 2022.

Since The Walking Dead concluded its run, there have been numerous spin-off series, including The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which has a second season titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol coming up. There is also The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
