Incredibly popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat followed up his Elden Ring marathon with yet another lengthy stream, this time tackling Bloodborne. Except completing the PS4 classic didn’t take him nearly as long as fans anticipated, with Cenat reaching credits in under 30 hours. That isn’t counting The Old Hunters expansion, but some fans are already miffed that he not only skipped optional areas and didn’t bother to explore, but now views himself as a public spokesperson for Bloodborne and its potentially remastered future.
FromSoftware games are made to be savoured on your first playthrough. While there are entire communities based around speedrunning, it is highly recommended to take your time unearthing every hidden area and optional boss, as it doesn’t serve the experience to rush through it like you have a deadline. InCenat’s marathon, though, he made use of exploits, complained about needing to explore, and was in a self-inflicted march to the end when he would have done himself and Bloodborne far more justice if he stopped for a second to soak it all in. Instead, he looked like a fool.
Bloodborne Is A Very Different Game Than Elden Ring
There is no right way to play a game like Elden Ring and Bloodborne. You create an avatar that can be levelled up to accommodate different weapons, skills, and playstyles that can all be used to dominate their respective worlds. You can make use of shortcuts, cheese a boss or two, and turn their otherwise morbid playgrounds into beautiful lands of fantasy that bow to your every whim. But you need to learn them first, and respect everything they achieve in both mechanical intensity and visual prowess. Without that, you are doing them an injustice.
Kai Cenat is one of the biggest streamers on the planet and averaged roughly 70k viewers during his Bloodborne marathon, and many of them noted that he audibly whined about bits of the game that differentiated from Elden Ring, such as more linear areas you had to best in order to progress or more unorthodox gameplay mechanics that aren’t always explained. It is more esoteric, but after triumphing over Elden Ring and introducing millions of new people to FromSoftware, you’d think he’d have grown up a little bit. I’m glad he had fun, but Cenat can seem somewhat oblivious to the size of his audience and how his views on video games will spread far and wide whether he realises it or not.
Kai Cenat Isn’t The Right Spokesperson For Bloodborne
The marathon ends with Kai Cenat saying the following: “I definitely have the power to bring attention onto a topic within the Souls community… I’ll try to push the narrative for something to happen.” He is referring to a potential remaster of Bloodborne that fans have been hoping to become a reality for almost a decade now, and given his online following, likely has a shot at making it happen, or at the very least getting Sony and FromSoftware to take notice. The streamer was sent a life-sized Melania statue after beating Elden Ring, so we know the dev is paying attention.
Bro talked like this but skipped almost every optional boss, rushed through everything, got mad he was stuck on a boss bc if the rushing, screamed then he DOES NOT want to explore the game and used an exploit
kai cenat did bloodborne NO justice at all https://t.co/fsTiwHc7Fl— Manu (@speziultra) August 4, 2024
But considering how he progressed through the game and willingly disrespected it at times, hardcore fans are concerned that Cenat made Bloodborne look boring, or could turn off most new players because he chose to depict it in a negative or misguided light. A remaster might pave over many of the issues he encountered during his marathon, but if that never comes to pass, I pray this marathon doesn’t turn people away from Bloodborne for no good reason.
