She openly suffered with addiction and mental health issues before she tragically died aged 27 of alcohol poisoning.
But whilst Amy Winehouse battled her demons in the public eye, stunning unseen photographs of the star have emerged of her looking virtually unrecognisable during the beginnings of her career.
Speaking about the shots, photographer Phil Knott, remarked: ‘This was the funny, healthy and remarkable Amy that I remembered, and captured in those early years.’

He continued: ‘When I unearthed this box of photos, after moving to LA, I was moved by how full of hope, beauty and shy innocence they were.’
Phil also explained the images showed Amy ‘in her prime’ before the addictions she was battling took hold.

Wearing her raven coloured locks loose and tousled, Amy was virtually unrecognisable without her tresses styled in her signature beehive whilst her plump pout was painted a rich shade of red.
Resting on a stool and smouldering down the lens, the Grammy winner looked a vision of health and happiness.
The candid snaps will go on display at Zebra One Gallery in London on September 13 – the day before what would have been Amy’s birthday.

Last month marked the fifth anniversary of Amy’s death, when she was discovered at her home in Camden after suffering from accidental alcohol poisoning.
She died in July 2011 just five years into her stratospheric global music career.
Since her death, there have been multiple tributes to the singer songwriter, including a movie documenting her life and early career, simply entitled AMY.
While the movie was recognised with an Academy Awards nomination for Best Documentary Feature and won Best Documentary at BAFTAs, Amy’s father Mitch was vocal in his protestations about the film.

Mitch consistently slammed filmmaker Asif Kapadia’s 2015 flick, calling it disappointing, and saying ‘it missed a trick and it was very hurtful for the family.’
But in February this year, the attack turned on jazz musician Mitch, when he was accused of ‘milking the cash cow’ following Amy’s death.
Some viewers reacted negatively on social media when he discussed Amy’s Best British Female Solo Artist gong at this year’s Brit Awards during an appearance on This Morning.

Mitch – who helped set up the Amy Winehouse foundation to help with young addicts – was branded ‘desperate,’ ‘whiny’ and ‘sick’ when he once again lashed out at filmmakers.
He said: ‘To be honest with you, I’m getting sick of the sound of my own voice. What we’ve achieved hopefully with the foundation.
‘We haven’t done that from a position of negativity, we’ve done been very positive about what we needed to do and I hate being negative about anything.’
Controversial: Amy’s father Mitch – who helped set up the Amy Winehouse foundation to help with young addicts – criticised the documentary made in her honour
