Laura Sliazaite, 39, was ‘obsessive’ about food and exercise, and suffered an array of issues including joint pain, low vitamin levels, bleeding gums and itchy skin.
A London woman who abandoned her vegan lifestyle in favour of the contentious ‘carnivore diet’ claims it has not only improved her health but also her finances.
Laura Sliazaite, 39, experimented with a raw vegan regimen that primarily consisted of uncooked fruits and vegetables but found herself battling high blood sugar and sleep disturbances.
The IT professional, who was once “obsessive” about food and exercise, endured various ailments such as joint pain, low vitamin levels, bleeding gums, and itchy skin.
Having avoided meat for over a decade, Laura gradually reintroduced different food groups into her meals before committing to an all-meat diet for a month to determine if meat truly was detrimental to her health.
Despite warnings from sceptics that she risked a heart attack by persisting with this radical diet, Laura has experienced nothing but positive outcomes and has been consuming solely meat, fish, eggs, cheese, and fats for the last year.

Laura shared: “After the first of the 30 days, I started feeling so amazing, full of energy, and my digestion was better. I decided to do 100 days, and by the time that had finished, I knew this was going to be my lifestyle.”

She added: “Now that it’s been more than a year, I can definitely say that for the first time, I’m feeling like a human being. I can see how my body has healed and is continuing to heal.”
Laura has experienced remarkable improvements in her health since changing her diet. She reported that her eczema, joint pain, and inflammation disappeared, her gum bleeding ceased, and she observed positive shifts in her mood and anxiety levels.
Initially abandoning veganism in 2014, Laura gradually reintroduced eggs and dairy into her diet, followed by meat and fish.
Her sister had been encouraging her to make the change for about two years after witnessing Laura’s struggles with her restrictive vegan diet.

Sharing her dietary transition on social media, Laura remarked, “I understood that it was not making me healthy and I didn’t have enough energy. I couldn’t sacrifice my body any longer.”
Previously, Laura dealt with insomnia, a “greyish” skin tone, and back pain. These days, her typical meals include a breakfast rich in eggs, bacon, and cheese, and a dinner featuring steak slathered in butter.
Despite her improved wellbeing, Laura’s dietary choices have sparked controversy, particularly at work where she said: “A lot of my colleagues were laughing at me at the beginning of my journey, where I was eating a lot of butter and a lot of meat.”
She also faces criticism online, with negative comments on Instagram warning: “I get a lot of bad comments on Instagram saying I will soon be dead, I will clog my arteries, I will die from a heart attack, and that I’m ruining my digestion.”
Nevertheless, Laura stands by her decision, citing significant benefits to both her mental and physical health.
She explained: “I feel the carnivore diet changed something in my brain. My sleeping issues completely disappeared, so now I touch the pillow and I am out, and I wake up before my alarm whereas before I would barely sleep three hours a night.
“I had eczema and body itchiness my entire life, sometimes so bad it felt like my body was on fire this has disappeared.
“My body shape has improved I didn’t really lose any weight but my inflammation went away. All my digestive issues like bloating, cramps and acid reflux have gone.”
She added: “My hair has never been more shiny, and even my eyesight has improved. My energy is always stable now I don’t have the dips where I need a snack or get coffee.
“I used to get colds quite often and get cold sores on my lips, but haven’t had that for the last year even with people around me and at work getting sick.”
Laura also mentioned that the diet has been kind to her wallet despite her almost daily steak consumption. Previously as a vegan, she spent roughly £100 a week on nuts, berries, and greens, but now she’s managed to slash her food bill by nearly half.
She added: “Before starting the carnivore diet I thought it’s going to be quite expensive, but I spend way less money now.
Diet ‘supercharges health’, lowers blood pressure and reduces diabetes risk
“I do my grocery shopping once or twice a week and I get lots of steaks, lots of beef mince, organic eggs, some cheese and double cream for my coffee. I spend on my food probably around £50 to £70 a week.”
While Laura’s dietary adjustments have proven successful for her, they may not be suitable for everyone. It’s always wise to seek medical advice before making any significant changes to your diet.
