Adele is famous for her impeccable vocals and chart-topping music – but back in 2009 she showed off her acting chops during an appearance on a huge US hit TV show
Adele once appeared in a mega US hit show – and she looked totally different.
But it wasn’t until her second album 21, that she broke records, becoming one of the biggest superstars around. The record became the world’s best-selling album of the 21st century, with sales of over 31 million.
Since then, Adele has released a further two more albums, each one selling over a million. The mum-of-one has also embarked on a slew of sell-out tours, including a Vegas residency.

But it turns out Adele once appeared in a huge US hit show 15 years ago before her worldwide fame – with a star in the programme claiming that the show “made her famous.”
In 2009, Adele had a cameo on the hit comedy show Ugly Betty. The series followed style disaster Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she landed a job at a fashion magazine and navigated her way through backstabbing colleagues and demanding love life.

Viewers fell in love with Betty, her family and work friends, before the show came to an end due to low ratings. And during series three, Adele made an appearance as herself.
The pop star appears and performs at a photoshoot, that Betty is in charge of. Adele also had several lines of dialogue – delivered in her north London accent. And according to lead actress America, who played Betty, she joked about how the show “made Adele famous.”

Speaking at the Ugly Betty reunion panel at ATX Television Festival in 2017, America was quizzed about Adele’s stint. She quipped: “We made Adele famous.”
And it turns out it was down to America that Adele bagged a cameo on the show. America said: “That was me. That was America.
“I had her album, 19, and, anyway, she was on SNL the night Sarah Palin was on SNL, remember? I went and I was like singing every word to songs that people didn’t know and some guy’s like, ‘Do you want to go meet her?’ And I was like, ‘I’m going to die.’”
Meeting Adele, America revealed: “I was like, ‘Come be on our show!’ And she was like, ‘I would love to!’ And then she came and did our show.”
