Sausage Party made the switch from film to the small screen with Sausage Party: Foodtopia, the sequel series streaming on Prime Video. Fans of the movie should not expect the series to be any less raunchy.
The developers of the series, Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter, spoke about Sausage Party: Foodtopia in a new interview with CBR’s Kevin Polowy. They commented on how they wanted to at least match, if not outright surpass, the raunchiness of the original feature film. That even means trying to outdo the famous “food orgy” scene from the film, and the two think they may have accomplished that goal — which wasn’t easy.
One of the best movies to star action movie icon Jason Statham is now streaming.
“Pretty much. Yeah, I’d say so,” Shaffir said when asked if the goal was to maintain the borderline NC-17 vibe of the movie. “There’s definitely some moments — it’s not wall-to-wall NC-17 content — but there are certainly bits and pieces, and moments, even in the series, where we kind of try to hit that same height and maybe even attempt to exceed it.”

Hunter added, “The movie orgy was definitely a centerpiece… I mean, ultimately, it’s tough to top that, but I dare say we might have done it in the series.”

There’s a scene in the very first episode that’s reminiscent of the feature film’s food orgy. Hunter confirmed this was put into the series early on as he knew many fans were expecting it. This way, that expectation could be appeased quickly so the series could move on to its other shockking moments to surprise fans in the following episodes.
“We read the Reddit posts, and they said, ‘If this comes out, we need to see some more of that action,’ and we give the fans what they want,” Hunter said.
Sausage Party: Foodtopia Serves as a Sequel to the Feature Film
The series picks up when the safe haven for the food, called “Foodtopia,” is ravaged by a flood, forcing the edible characters to team up with humans to survive. The voice cast includes Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Sam Richardson, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, Michael Cera, and Will Forte. Rogen created the series with Evan Goldberg and Conrad Vernon.
Sausage Party: Foodtopia is now streaming on Prime Video.
