Clippers owner Steve Ballmer is now the sixth richest man in the world, with a net worth of $157 billion. The Michigan native has edged his former boss Bill Gates, who stands at $156 billion. This is an incredible feat for Ballmer and his empire.
Ironically, Ballmer was the former CEO of Microsoft, a corporation owned by Gates. The former is regarded as one of the most passionate owners in the league, which is evident from his energy and enthusiasm when seated in the front row watching the Clips.
Ballmer took over ownership of the franchise in 2014. Aspiring to build a culture and identity for the Clips, the former Harvard alumni went all-out, hiring some of the best talents, including players, coaches, and even front-office management.
His latest passion project is the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, finally giving the Clippers their home court after years of co-hosting games with the Lakers. Ballmer was more than generous in spending $2 billion setting up the arena to give fans the best viewing experience.
Steve Ballmer’s moves after becoming Clippers owner
Ballmer is widely regarded as one of the most generous owners in the NBA. The 68-year-old billionaire pulled all the stops when it came to providing the best resources. Some examples are the following; hiring the late great Jerry West as an executive board member and consultant, signing superstar duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, hiring former NBA champion coach Ty Lue and, most recently, building the Intuit Dome in Inglewood.
Hence, one cannot deny Ballmer’s willingness to splurge on the best resources. However, his team’s fortunes haven’t been in their favor, with injuries constantly hounding their marquee superstars.
Nevertheless, Ballmer isn’t one to bow down so easily and must already be building a roadmap to utilize his fortune for the Clippers’ future.
