Adele’s defense of Pride Month in response to what she thought was a heckler at her Saturday show yelling “Pride sucks!” went viral on social media, but other videos from the event suggest the audience member actually yelled, “Work sucks!” as a response to Adele discussing her busy work schedule on stage.

KEY FACTS
Adele told off an audience member at her Las Vegas concert residency this weekend after she thought the member yelled “Pride sucks!” while the singer was speaking to the audience.
“Did you come to my f— show and just say that Pride sucks?” Adele asked the audience member, telling them to “shut up” if they have “nothing nice to say.”
But several videos posted to social media by concertgoers, and tweets from some who say they attended the concert, appear to show the audience member yelling, “Work sucks!” as Adele discussed her busy work schedule.
One X user claimed in a post she was in the section next to the heckler, stating the situation was “very awkward” because the audience member said “work sucks.”

KEY BACKGROUND
Just before the fan appeared to yell, “Work sucks!” Adele told the audience that her work week was just beginning, despite the concert taking place on a weekend, according to a video posted by a concertgoer. “Friday’s basically the beginning of my week, you know, because that’s when I work, basically. So it’s sort of like the weekdays are my weekend, an extra long weekend,” Adele said, before being interrupted by the audience member. “What was that? Did you just say Pride sucks?” Adele asked, before launching her defense of Pride month.
SURPRISING FACT
Despite the apparent mix-up, Adele’s defense of Pride Month was met with praise from LGBTQ+ activists on social media. The LGBTQ+ rights advocacy group, Human Rights Campaign, praised the singer, tweeting: “Want to know how to challenge bullies and hate this Pride Month? Take a page from the icon that is @Adele.” Actor John Leguizamo tweeted: “Tell them Adele! You go girl!” “This is what an LGBTQ+ ally looks like,” another user tweeted, garnering nearly 6,000 likes.
