During Thursday’s (June 27) episode of Clarkson’s Daytime Emmy-winning talk show, the original American Idol took to the stage with her live band as she usually does for the “Kellyoke” segment of her NBC program. The group went on to perform “All Night Parking (interlude)” from Adele’s 2021 album 30.
Hours after the broadcast initially aired, a full-length video documenting the performance was uploaded to YouTube by Clarkson’s team, and fans didn’t wait long to share their reactions.
Many declared the 42-year-old “A Moment Like This” singer one of the few names on the short list of musicians that “should cover” an Adele track. Still, not all were convinced that her rendition outplayed the original version–something Clarkson’s fans have come to expect from her powerhouse vocals, dubbing it the “Kellyoke effect.”
“even though Adele is one of the few artists immune to the kellyoke effect, Kelly is also one of the few Artists who can cover an Adele song,” one YouTuber suggested.
Despite the original version of the song standing on its own, Clarkson’s version also impressed viewers, with one gushing, “Vocals as smooth as butter.”
“There’s VERY few people who should cover an Adele song and Kelly is one of them,” a different top-liked comment exclaimed.
“I co-sign any Adele cover,” a third quipped, before others begged for more, with one suggesting, “Kelly you should cover TO BE LOVED by Adele!!!” and another demanding, “we need a FULL covers of adele’s 30 NOW!!!”
