Branching off with Spectacular Spider-Man in 1968, Marvel began using multiple comic series to tell Spider-Man’s story. The original comic, The Amazing Spider-Man, and the newer series followed Peter Parker’s adventures, offering a unique glimpse into the young hero’s life
By running multiple comic series a month, Marvel could deliver more Spider-Man content to eager fans and tell several adventures simultaneously. This trend continued over the decades, and soon, Marvel created a comic series for the web-slinger’s allies and enemies. From Miles Morales: Spider-Man to Venom, Spidey’s fans have tons of excellent comics to look forward to every month.

Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin proves that Peter Parker knows exactly how powerful and terrifying he truly is as his titular counterpart.
Life for Peter Parker has never been easy, especially when it comes to being Spider-Man. Unfortunately, neither of those are the life that the titular hero of Amazing Spider-Man has had to worry about lately, whereas his life as the Green Goblin most certainly is.
While Peter works tirelessly to find some way of removing the Green Goblin persona from the back of his mind, some of his greatest allies are banding together to fight on his behalf. Better yet, some of his most capable enemies are joining in the fight for Spider-Man’s future, and even the real Green Goblin doesn’t have any chance of holding his own against all of them.

Over the past few months, Carnage has embarked on another of his infamous crusades of terror, albeit not without facing great opposition from his fellow symbiotes. Tragically, not even Marvel’s many Kings in Black have been strong enough to stop Carnage in his tracks, although Flash Thompson may have just stumbled upon exactly how to do that.
After emerging from the Darkforce Dimension, Flash Thomspon, better known as Anti-Venom, found himself face-to-face with Marvel’s premier serial-killer symbiote. He also discovered that the villain was now immune to Anti-Venom’s otherwise caustic touch. Thankfully, the arrival of Liz Allan, aka Misery, also came with a weapon that can quite literally reduce Carnage to shreds, assuming they can keep a bead on him long enough for that to happen.

What If… Venom has shown readers how worse things could have turned out for the Marvel Universe had its eponymous symbiote never found a relatively permanent host in the form of Eddie Brock. Apart from oozing its way into the minds of heroes like She-Hulk and Wolverine, this Venom has also made a home within that of Earth’s very own Sorcerer Supreme, and that’s just the next step in its plan.
Now Venom and his previously unseen Asgardian host Loki have their sights set on a bigger target than ever before. With a little help from She-Hulk, as well as some unwitting aid from Moon Knight and his three distinct alter-egos, the moon god Khonshu is at risk of becoming Venom’s next most powerful vessel, and there might not be anything the heroes can do to stop it.

Miguel O’Hara has been one of the greatest heroes the world of 2099 has ever known across multiple iterations of its futuristic story. That makes it all the worse that, as of now, he is also one of the biggest threats to Marvel’s not-so-far-flung future. Or rather, he will be if he can’t shake Venom’s influence over him.
Coming into contact with a new strain of symbiote wasn’t the worst thing that could have happened to the Spider-Man of 2099, but letting his half-brother Kron and his malevolent symbiote work their way into his mind very nearly was. Thankfully, Miguel has found the strength to fight against the true threat at hand, even if it costs him his life.

The current, ongoing Venom has given readers branching stories from the beginning. While the various threads involved have spun out into a winding tapestry that spans time and space, Venom‘s most central storylines are finally coming back around to one another, and it means war.
Just as Eddie Brock has seen terrifying visions of what the future will look like should his son Dylan maintain a bond with the Venom symbiote, Dylan has seen the horrifying fate that awaits them all if he doesn’t stand in his father’s way. This, plus the introduction of an entirely new figure central to their story, has all been building up Marvel’s upcoming Venom War, and from the looks of things so far, it all begins here.

Sony’s live-action Spider-Man Universe hasn’t lived up to expectations set by its missing titular character, which is why it’s time to let him go.
For good reason, Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin might be Marvel’s most unexpected throwback hit of the year. Apart from bringing readers back to Peter Parker’s earliest days as the titular wall-crawler, it has also shed new light on the beginnings of one of his worst enemies, not to mention the life of the Green Goblin’s own previously unseen predecessor.
Between the mystery of where this Proto-Goblin came from and what exactly Norman Osborn’s part in all of this is, Shadow of the Green Goblin distills the heartache at the core of Spider-Man’s cause in a captivating and painful light. Of course, the fact that the series takes place at a time when the death of Uncle Ben was still a fresh wound makes the anguish on display all the more understandable, yet it doesn’t diminish the rest of the series’ story, nor Peter’s journey seen along the way.

Featuring Spider-Man variants like Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Gwen, Marvel’s best Edge of Spider-Verse issues introduced unforgettable characters.
As much as classic Spider-Man stories have always been about high-flying action and superpowered adventures, they have also focused largely on the pulse-pounding romances that Peter Parker is so often swept up in. As of Spectacular Spider-Men, Miles has been given a glimpse into exactly what that is like; Peter quickly realizes that all of this is too good to ever be true for him.
As it turns out, two classic Marvel villains have been behind the recent confounding developments in Peter and Miles’ lives. Specifically, Mentallo and Arcade have turned their attention to the two web-slingers. Unfortunately for the heroes, this means going up against two villains who are utterly relentless in their endeavors, whereas for the villains, it means learning just how insufferable any number of Spider-Men can be.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man (Vol. 2) #22 is a Rematch with Miles’ Least Favorite Vampire

Date Published:
July 3, 2024
Comic Type:

Creative Team:
Cody Ziglar, Brent Peeples, Daniel Picciotto, Bryan Valenza, and VC’s Cory Petit

From Edge of Spider-Verse to Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, Marvel has told some fantastic Spider-Man stories that don’t take place in the 616 universe.
Marvel’s Blood Hunt has horrifyingly reshaped the entire Marvel Universe, and Miles Morales hasn’t been lucky enough to escape it. Now a vampire himself, Miles at least has an edge over the blood-sucking legions who are currently attempting to take control of the planet for themselves. Or, more accurately, he did, all the way up until the return of R’ym’r.
An ancient vampire unlike any other that has stepped out into the open during Blade’s war against the living, R’ym’r faced Miles Morales almost a year ago, and he knows full well what this Spider-Man is capable of. As such, it is hard to imagine how Miles will ever defeat R’ym’r all over again, especially when he wasn’t even the one to seal the ancient villain away the first time they faced off against one another.

Hobie Brown has taken on major threats as the fan-favorite Spider-Punk, but he has never dealt with anything like his most recent string of villains. If Justin Hammer’s Spider-Slayer mech weren’t bad enough, the Spider-Band is now staring down the oversized fists of Doctor Otto Octavius’ very own Spider-Slayer Sentinel.
Luckily enough for the heroes of the Spider-Band, they’ve got a towering mech of their own in the form of the Spider-Van, albeit with a few minor (or major) modifications made along the way. Now, the heroes are ready for the next fight of their lives, and if they’re lucky, they’ll even manage to survive it.
Ultimate Spider-Man (Vol. 3) #6 Drops Peter Parker Into His First Real Fight

X-Men ’97 has finally seen the return of Marvel’s favorite mutants. But as the series hits its stride, another show deserves a second chance as well.
Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe has introduced a bevy of updated versions of classic characters in ways that readers might have never imagined before. These include the new Ultimate Spider-Man who, despite being far more experienced with life in general than the original, has not even an iota of the web-slinging expertise of any other version of the character.
That being the case, it isn’t hard to see why Peter’s first real fight against a real villain in the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man #6 doesn’t go nearly as well as he had hoped. Then again, the revelation that he is only so strong is far from the most important the issue has to offer, even if it is the one that leaves the most obvious impact upon its titular hero.

Edge of the Spider-Verse has always been the starting point for some of the biggest breakout heroes fans have ever seen. That isn’t to say that every hero to begin their comic book career in the pages of Edge of the Spider-Verse was born from it, however, especially not when it comes to the Jessica Drew of Earth-332.
Originally introduced in the animated feature film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, this particular version of Spider-Woman has finally found a home for herself in the pages of Marvel Comics. Of course, that only means that her already complicated superhero lifestyle is about to get even more difficult. However, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that she will be able to handle whatever comes her way next.

Ever since he was spun into existence when the Web of Life and Destiny was rewoven, Bailey Briggs has had to fight for his place in the world. Now, Bailey is about to see what it is like fighting for a place on more worlds than he ever thought possible, thanks to a botched attempt to give him back the life he never had.
Now that the threat of Madame Monstrosity has been dealt with, Bailey’s shot at giving him a proper place in the primary Marvel Universe has sent him hurtling through the Spider-Verse to places unknown. Thankfully, Bailey isn’t alone, as the trio of Madame Webb, Araña, and Silk are sitting on the sidelines to try and guide him through wherever his journey takes him.

Norman Osborn is the most famous Green Goblin, but Harry Osborn’s 1990s stint as Green Goblin was the most affecting and unsettling for Spider-Man
When the insectile Shathra attacked the Web of Life and Destiny, Jessica Drew was one of the heroes whose life was unraveled. And while she returned from her experience, things haven’t been the same. This is largely because, in her absence, Hydra stole away Jessica’s young son Gerry, yet her journey to find him has only dropped her into the middle of an entirely different mystery.
Now, Spider-Woman has to try and navigate not only the West Coast but also the startling introductions of a team of young heroes whose corporate sponsors are most certainly keeping secrets about where they came from and what they have planned for the future.

When the threat of Supernova, formerly Estrella Lopez, emerged in New York City, Spider-Man was forced to answer the call thanks to the impossibly powerful foe believing he was responsible for her transformation. Of course, that is only because of the time Otto Octavius spent within Peter’s body as the Superior Spider-Man, although Peter wasn’t the only one who underwent such a change.
Now, the sentient swarm of arachnids once known as Spiders-Man, who house a version of Otto’s consciousness, have let themselves loose across New York City to infect and assimilate anyone and everyone they can crawl into. Worse still, the real Otto doesn’t seem to have any problems working with his other self, even if it means once again proving that he was never capable of being a hero in his own right.

When Mary Jane Watson first acquired her current, luck-based superpowers, she never imagined that they would lead to her taking up her own mantle as a hero. Now that she has, her life has opened up to a myriad of new possibilities that she never thought would be available to her.
That doesn’t mean everything has been easy for Mary Jane’s transition into Jackpot, but not when her latest enemies pit her against her best friend and mentor – Felicia Hardy, aka the Black Cat. The two heroes may not be working directly against one another, but plenty of secrets are kept between them. Hopefully, good luck won’t run out for either of them soon, even if one is bound to steamroll the other sooner.
Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #2 Continues Peter Parker’s Unlikely Partnership with a Classic Villain

While Blood Hunt has subjected Miles Morales to the unliving existence of being a vampire, it has subjected Peter Parker to working with one of his oldest and fiercest enemies. Fortunately, this Lizard isn’t nearly as keen on consuming Spider-Man as it is about surviving the ongoing vampiric assault.
Unfortunately, Spider-Man and his allies aren’t just up against one breed of vampire. They have just stumbled into the middle of an operation dedicated to producing an entire army of an entirely different kind of vampire altogether, and it is being run up by one of the most underrated villains that Spider-Man has ever known.

Another throwback series, Venom: Separation Anxiety, brings readers back to the titular symbiote’s most iconic era. In a shocking turn, it also introduces them to what might have been Venom’s most powerful host, all in the form of one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most despicable villains.
Zebediah Killgrave, better known as the Purple Man, is infamous for tormenting and torturing Jessica Jones during her short career as the costumed crime-fighter Jewel. With Venom: Separation Anxiety #2, the Purple Man has been given a greater reach than ever before, not to mention a whole new set of powers he is just waiting to unleash upon anyone who gets in his way.
Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #2 Continues Gwen Stacy’s Move to a New Reality

Date Published:
June 26, 2024
Comic Type:
Ongoing Series

Creative Team:
Stephanie Phillips, Federica Mancin, Matt Milla, and VC’s Ariana Maher
Spider-Gwen is undoubtedly one of the most beloved characters to ever emerge from the sprawling expanse of the Spider-Verse. That being said, the fact that even so many of her fellow heroes who love her hadn’t made her transition to the primary Marvel Universe any easier, especially when she didn’t tell any of them about the move to begin with.
To make matters worse, Gwen has also been under siege by not one but two powerful enemies since she arrived at her new home. Kraven the Hunter was one thing, but a superpowered Chameleon is quickly proving to be more than she can handle, and if the Ghost-Spider isn’t lucky, he might even end up being the last villain she ever fights.

Al Ewing, Christos Gage, Danilo S. Beyruth, Greg Land, Ceci De La Cruz, Jay Leisten, Frank D’Armata, Benjamin Percy, Brian Level, Ruth Redmond, Carlos Lao, and VC’s Travis Lanham
Like so many other titles, Venomverse Reborn is an anthology series featuring different glimpses into various corners of the multiverse or, in this case, the Venomverse. And, where others have introduced a host of instantly iconic heroes, Venomverse Reborn is just as apt to introduce readers to murderous new villains.
Told through the lens of windows opened by the Eventuality, the seventh iteration of Eddie Brock as the King in Black who stands as the ultimate form the character is bound to take on, Venomverse Reborn has clear ties to the ongoing story of the Eddie fans know best. At the same time, there is no telling which alternate realities will have a part to play when the Venom War kicks off, let alone which side they will be on when that time comes.
Spider-Man: Reign 2 #1 Reintroduces One of Marvel’s Bleakest Futures

When it was released in 2006, Spider-Man: Reign enthralled readers with its fresh take on a future Marvel Universe enveloped in dystopian horror. Now, nearly twenty years later, Kaare Andrews has brought readers back to his vision for the future, which is just as bleak as ever.
The original Spider-Man: Reign may not have ended with Peter’s retirement from his superhero career, but it ended on a happier note than fans would expect to lead into the events of the sequel. Not only has Spider-Man been reduced to a shell of his former self, but one of his worst enemies has established a stranglehold over New York City that could end it. Even worse, the only other Spider-Man who could help is standing firmly on the other side of the battle lines, and he has no intention of crossing it again.

Although the main story in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 is firmly rooted within the series’ native territory, both literally and in terms of storytelling, it probably isn’t the one that fans are most excited about. Instead, the issue’s backup story is the one that has captured readers’ attention above all else. However, that isn’t surprising, considering it marks the return of none other than Phil Coulson himself.
As seen in “The Death Stone Saga (chapter two),” everyone’s favorite MCU S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is back among the living in the pages of Marvel Comics. While that might be a boon on the surface, the Infinity Stone, whose power brought him back, isn’t necessarily the best he could have asked for, nor is the Mephisto-born hero who has come to welcome him back from the dead.
