‘My food tips as a dietitian “upset” people: You can have bread multiple times a day and be healthy”

Registered dietitian Lauren Smith has gone viral on TikTok for sharing her pieces of expert advice that ‘upset’ people – many women have thanked her for the ‘refreshing’ outlook

A dietitian revealed her ‘healthy’ pieces of advice that have caused ‘upset’ – like eating bread more than once a day.

Lauren Smith, who is a food freedom dietitian, is on a mission to “help people love food again, trust their bodies, and to realise that nutrition can and should be easy”. She’s already racked up 22,000 TikTok followers in the process with her videos on nutrition and beating food shame.

With many people on the internet attempting to offer advice about what is ‘healthy’ – and what is not – the expert has set out to banish some of these myths about eating certain grub. And one of the registered dietitian’s recent videos highlighted how she ‘upsets’ people for providing advice that might go against ‘toxic’ beliefs around food.

In the clip that has racked up over 1million views, Lauren shared a smiley picture of herself and said: “Things I’ve said as a dietitian that seems to upset people.” She then exposed the list of her expert opinions that cause controversy.

“Not every meal needs a vegetable,” Lauren urged as she included a picture of a yummy looking baguette with a side of crisps. Alongside of a photo of some cheese coated pasta, the dietitian declared: “Carbohydrates are your brains primary fuel source.”

Lauren then went on to discuss other topics that have caused a stir, she continued: “Healthy meals are only healthy if you can also enjoy the fun stuff without guilt or shame. Dairy isn’t inflammatory unless you’re allergic. You can have bread multiple times a day and be healthy.

“Every single food undergoes a certain degree of processing, processed doesn’t mean unhealthy.”

Many people fled to the comments to praise Lauren for her ‘refreshing’ stance towards food. “Thanks. I swear people don’t know what processed means,” one person commented. Another user added: “Love all of this. Thank you. Recovering from food shame.”

While a third voiced: “I’ve lost over 30lbs and I’ve never eaten more ice cream in my life lol.” Someone else shared: “Omg now I can eat my bread peacefully. I love bread so much.”

Meanwhile, a fifth expressed: “This is so refreshing.” And this user announced: “Bread is the best thing ever…I basically cant live without it.”
