The burger is a new trial release product from McDonald’s which contains an entirely plant-based patty, with vegan cheese and a vegan sandwich sauce.

Max challenged himself to wolf down 10,000 calories in the form of 25 burgers but only managed a respectable 23.

He said, “There has been a lot of talk about this new burger, and I always like to try new food items.

“I’m also keen on keeping myself updated with all the latest vegan products, to see what they are like compared to their non vegan equivalents.

Max said he knew his 25 goal would be a stretch, and that burger number 20 snapped him back to the reality of how difficult the challenge was.

He said, “I was just trying to see how many I would be able to eat, and I knew I knew a target of 25 was ambitious but it’s one to aim for.

“It was around the time I reached the 20th burger that I really started to feel the impact of the challenge.

“The last 5 were a struggle so I was happy with my time of 59 minutes and 45 seconds, but I wish I could have finished the last ones a lot sooner.

“After I finished, I just went into a food coma, I was asleep before I knew it!”

Max described the taste of the burger as meaty, but not like a traditional beef burger.

He explained, “You could tell it was different to a regular beef patty, but it didn’t taste like the pea-based protein which it’s made from.

“There was quite a bit of variation per burger, so some had lots of sauce which I wasn’t such a fan of as I liked the natural taste of the patty.

“The cheese and sauce tasted exactly the same to me in the burger and the bun was very similar too, but overall it was decent, and I think it’s good for people to expand their horizons when it comes to food.

“When people say they don’t like something without having tried it, I think that’s just silly, give it a try and then if you don’t like it then that’s fair.”

Max resisted the urge to wash the burgers down with a traditional McDonald’s milkshake, and instead opted for some lighter soft drinks.

He said, “I did have some cola, ginger beer and a store-bought milkshake just to help me through the process.

“It sounds crazy but I actually put some whipped spray cream on the last burger to provide some sweetness as the flavour fatigue was so tough for the last ones.”

Max’s usual go to McDonald’s order is more traditional, and he has dabbled in McDonald’s challenges and other vegan challenges before as well.

He said, “Nuggets or chicken selects are my go-to and I’ve taken on a 200-nugget challenge before and won a contest where I ate 141 in 10 minutes to win £1000.

“I recently was part of a speed eating challenge where I had to finish a Papa John’s jackfruit and vegan cheese pizza as one of the choices and it wasn’t good at all.

“But I had a vegan burger contest where I ate 18 in 20 minutes, and it was the Moving Mountains brand, beetroot-based patties which were really tasty.”
