It’s been over 20 years since the first Harry Potter film came out, where Harry Potter stars are now – from starting podcasts to writing novels

Twenty years on from the first film and ten years on from the last, lets see what some of the Harry Potter stars are up to now – including Evanna Lynch and Bonnie Wright

It’s been over 20 years since the first Harry Potter film came out.

Some stars featured in all eight films while others only appeared in a couple.

But overall the series have some fabulous names in it – people we’ve grown to love or familiar faces that we already admired. It’s been over a decade since the final film came out, so what are the actors up to now?

From Hollywood roles to podcasts and to book releases, the stars have gone on to have great careers (or continue on with their already successful careers). Here’s a breakdown of some of our favourites:

Evanna Lynch

Evanna Lynch first fell onto our screens in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

She played Luna Lovegood – a strange yet interesting student who formed a bond with Harry due to their ability to see the Thestrals.

Since the film series ended, Evanna has had a number of roles in TV and film. These include Silent Witness, You Eat Other Animals and most recently My Freaky Family.

Oliver and James Phelps

Twins in real life, the pair played the mischievous Fred and George Weasley.

The brothers have continued to work together post-Potter life and have even launched their own podcast titled Normal Not Normal.

They both starred in Last Night in Soho, while most James’ most recent venture was starring in Bloody Fury and Oliver featured in 7 Days: The Story Of Blind Dave Heeley.

Bonnie Wright

Bonnie Wright was just nine years old when she first appeared in Harry Potter.

She played the youngest of the Weasley siblings, Ginny, who grew up to marry Harry Potter.

After the films wrapped, Bonnie launched her own film company, BonBonLumiere. The actor has directed several projects including Separate We Come, Separate We Go, Know Thyself and Medusa’s Ankles.

On top of her film work, Bonnie has been involved with environmental activism, and became an ambassador for Greenpeace in 2017. She also released her debut novel, Go Gently: Actionable Steps To Nurture Yourself And The Planet, in 2022.

Matthew Lewis

Matthew Lewis played one of the most pivotal underdogs in Harry Potter – Neville Longbottom.

Neville started off as just a shy, forgetful and clumsy student who ended up playing a pivotal role in the demise of Lord Voldemort.

Since production wrapped, Matthew has starred in TV favourites such as Death in Paradise, Happy Valley, Ripper Street and All Creatures Great and Small.

Most recently he starred in Avoidance and according to IMBD will star in Touche, which is currently in post-production.

Dame Julie Walters

Already a household name, Dame Julie Walters played Polly Weasley, mother of Ron and his siblings.

Before Harry Potter, Julie was famous for her comedic roles, particularly with late comedian Victoria Wood. She played roles in Dinner Ladies, Acorn Antiques and Talking Heads.

Post-Potter world, Julie starred in Mamma Mia, Paddington, Brooklyn and The Secret Garden.

Robert Pattinson

After playing Cedric Diggery in the Goblet of Fire, Robert Pattinson has gone on to have a stellar Hollywood career.

He played the male lead in the Twilight series which became a phenomenon, much like Harry Potter. On top of that, he starred in The Batman, Tenet and The Boy and the Heron.

According to IMBD, he has several upcoming projects including Batman sequels and The Drama.

Jessie Cave – Lavender Brown

Jessie Cave played Ron’s admirer Lavender Brown in the Order of the Phoenix.

She is now a comedian but has also appeared in several shows including Am I Being Unreasonable?, Miss Scarlet and the Duke and The Baby.

Following her part in Harry Potter, the actor also featured in Call the Midwife, Pride and Great Expectations. Jessie also has quite the following on TikTok and boasts 26,000 followers.
