Slow Horses returns for season 4 and The Mirror takes a look back at Apple TV star Gary Oldman and his eventful life off-screen.
As Apple TV’s Slow Horses gears up for its fourth season, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the life and career of its star, Gary Oldman.
Oldman is a renowned actor, best known for his roles as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series, and James Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
The 66-year-old Hollywood icon has had an illustrious career spanning four decades, earning his first Oscar nomination in 2012 for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Since then, he’s been nominated for his leading role in 2020’s Mank and bagged the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in 2017’s Darkest Hour.

He’s also celebrated for his range, having played a variety of characters including Sid Vicious, Beethoven, and Dracula, reports the Express.
While things are currently going well for Oldman, who portrays Jackson Lamb in Slow Horses, his journey hasn’t always been smooth.
Known for his intense approach to every role, Oldman admitted to experiencing burnout and turning to alcohol.

The actor checked into rehab and was even detained overnight at an LA police station on suspicion of drunk driving. Alongside his struggles with alcoholism, Oldman faced upheaval in his personal life, including his marriage.

His first marriage to British actress Lesley Manville lasted just three years from 1987 to 1990.
The acclaimed actor then tied the knot with Pulp Fiction icon Uma Thurman in 1990, only to part ways two years later.
He found love again in 1997 with Donya Fiorentino whom he met at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, but that marriage too ended after four years.
Taking some time out for fatherhood, Gary returned to the altar in 2008.

His marriage to Alexandra Edenborough, who is two decades younger, ended on friendly terms seven years later.
In 2017, Gary wed writer and art curator Gisele Schmidt, and they’ve been blissfully together ever since.
Recently, Gary opened up to the BBC about being snubbed by the British honours system, despite his peers like Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Kenneth Branagh receiving knighthoods.
“I don’t know why,” he confessed. “You should ask them. No nod from the royals, but there we are.”
Interestingly, Gary is the sole British best actor or actress Oscar winner this century without any Royal accolade, and he insists he’s never declined one.
“Maybe it’s in my future,” he mused optimistically.
Fans can catch Gary in the first episode of Slow Horses season 4, dropping on Apple TV+ this Wednesday, September 4.
