In May 2022 Chillspot music producer DJ Fantan, real name Arnold Kamudyariwa, was arrested by police after allegedly beating up his wife Gamuchirai Nemukunyu and locking her up in their home.
HARARE – DJ Fantan’s ex-wife, Gamuchirai Nemukuyu has accused the music producer of failing to take care of his children, as he reportedly only buys orange juice and sweets for them while neglecting their major needs.
Nemukuyu, who also claimed that the DJ faked receipts that claimed he had bought groceries for $1500, dragged the Chillspot DJ to the Harare Civil Court, where she is demanding $300 for the children’s upkeep.
The DJ said he could not afford such a figure, as he was already paying for the children’s groceries among other expenses. This was a claim disputed by Nemukuyu.
“The grocery receipt he showed the court, the last time, was fake. I realised it when I was home, he had never bought groceries worth US$1 500.
“Ever since I moved in with my new husband, he has not been buying any groceries or paying rent and I do not want him to pay rent for me. I just want him to take care of his own children because he often brings Mazoe, Cerevita and sweets,” she said.
In response, Fantan said Nemukuyu only sought maintenance because she was spending the money he gave her recklessly.
“She is only asking for maintenance because she is the one who wants to spend that money living her best lifestyle with her friends. I take care of my children and provide them with everything they want.”
The DJ was ordered to pay $100 in maintenance by Magistrate Johanna Mukwesha.
