Shedding a few pounds is something many of us aspire to.
But it’s safe to say finding the motivation and discipline to pursue weight loss can be challenging. Thankfully though, there are fitness gurus out there who can help us.
One of these is Shannon Collins, otherwise known as The Gym Nurse. She boasts an impressive 150,000 followers on Instagram, where she often posts handy advice drawing from her own transformative fitness journey.
And the 44-year-old recently revealed common mistakes people make when trying to lose weight. She said many people struggle to tone up because they fall into classic bad habits.
Shannon claims relying solely on motivation is one mistake people make, with many adopting the belief that they’ll find the “perfect time” to begin their fitness journey.
Unfortunately, delaying the start usually has no beneficial outcome. Similarly, she warns against wishing for instant results, cautioning that the expectation is unrealistic and unhelpful.

Her main advice is to steer clear of extreme methods or so-called “quick fixes” where lasting change is unlikely, and it could harm your results. Additionally, trying to change too much of your lifestyle too soon can be overwhelming, leading to potential failure. As well as this, she noted fixating on scales isn’t always the most accurate way to gauge progress. This is because it isn’t solely based on shedding pounds, as it encompasses overall health and well-being.
The fitness enthusiast stressed that weighing less isn’t always a sign of strength, as she believes shunning weight training out of fear of bulking up is pointless. She insisted people need to be open to altering their routine to see progress.
Just because things can get tough, it doesn’t mean you should give up. The key to success is pushing through.
