There has been a lot of debate in the past revolving around the shape of the map, with some debating how it looks like a furled finger, and many others stating how it takes after the Godfrey Talisman icon.

However, those theories can now be put to rest, as players have seemingly found what is likely the inspiration behind the shape of The Lands Between.
Posting on the game’s official Reddit forum, a user pointed out how the island of Hokkaido is very similar to the map of Elden Ring, which might just not be a coincidence, bearing in mind how the studio is based in Japan as well.
Replying to the post, another user stated in the comments how this might be the one secret Hidetaka Miyazaki has said no player has found yet, making it one of the greatest FromSoftware discoveries of all time.
While it is unlikely the players will get a confirmation on this fact anytime soon, it remains a great find nonetheless, as it opens up the possibility of how the renowned director could have had inspiration from a real-world element.

There is no shame in admitting how Miyazaki’s latest franchise is possibly his best work yet, which is one of the reasons why it won the Game of the Year 2022 title, deservingly so.
There are also many mysteries and lose threads that the director has left like an unfinished book within the game, and while they lay the perfect groundwork for a sequel to the title, there is no way fans are waiting that long before finally going insane and looking in every single corner of the map for answers and more secrets.
Fortunately, the silver lining here is that being the studio’s best-selling franchise yet, there is a high chance the devs will get to work on the next installment in the franchise right away.
