Translated from German, the Rolling Stone Germany published an article on Friday with a positive review about the 34-year-old singer’s hot new album and a controversial headline that read: ‘Taylor Swift: “The Tortured Poets Department” — the better Adele.’
The comparison may not be entirely a coincidence as the contentious review comes as it was reported that Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is set to become the second album by a female artist opening with over 2 million units in its first week in the United States.
However, the ever-supportive Adele’s 25 remains in the lead as her third studio album debuted with 3.48 million units within its first week in 2015; Swift’s newest release still follows closely behind.
Taking first place in another category, however, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology did surpass Beyonce‘s country album Cowboy Carter for the title of 2024’s biggest album debut on Spotify after hitting number one on worldwide charts.

Following the article’s publication, Adele’s fans started to defend her and praise her vocals, which they claimed were ‘better’ than The Tortured Poets Department musician.

Another X user added that calling Swift ‘better’ than Adele was ‘so shady,’ adding that the beloved singer ‘will never be Adele.’

On her 11th studio album, the singer threw in brutal digs at Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy — lifting a lid on what really went down during their romances, breakups, and everything in between.
She also seemed to reference her drama with Kim Kardashian in two apparent diss tracks and also penned adorable love songs about her new beau Travis Kelce.
